Located at Southmill Rd, Bishop's Stortford CM23 3PB, United Kingdom, this charming restaurant delivers a perfect blend of traditional flavors and contemporary dining.

Walking into Tandoori Cottage, you'll immediately notice the warm, inviting ambiance. The restaurant's interior is thoughtfully designed with traditional Indian décor, making you feel like you're dining in a quaint cottage nestled in India itself. The cozy yet vibrant setting makes it an excellent spot for both casual dinners and special celebrations.

One of the highlights of dining here is the extensive menu, offering a wide range of dishes that cater to all tastes. From the moment you sit down, you're greeted with a selection of appetizers that tease your taste buds. The onion bhajis are crisp and flavorful, while the samosas, stuffed with spiced potatoes and peas, are a perfect way to begin your meal. For those who like a bit of spice, the chicken pakoras are a must-try, offering a crunchy texture with just the right amount of heat.

As for the main course, Tandoori Cottage truly excels in its tandoori specialties. Their signature tandoori chicken is a favorite among many regulars, cooked to perfection with a smoky flavor and tender juiciness that’s hard to beat. If you're in the mood for something a little different, the lamb seekh kebabs are wonderfully spiced and grilled just right, providing a melt-in-your-mouth experience with every bite.

But it's not just the tandoori dishes that stand out; the curry options are equally impressive. The menu features a variety of rich, flavorful curries, each with its own unique twist. The chicken tikka masala is a crowd-pleaser, with a creamy and mildly spiced tomato-based sauce. On the other hand, the lamb rogan josh offers a deeper, more complex flavor profile, perfect for those who appreciate a hearty, slow-cooked dish. For those looking for something lighter, the vegetable biryani is a fragrant, flavorful rice dish packed with mixed vegetables, offering a satisfying, well-balanced meal.

If you're unsure what to order, you can’t go wrong with the chef’s special, a dish that changes seasonally based on fresh ingredients and the chef’s creativity. Recently, the restaurant has been offering a delectable butter chicken, which has become an instant favorite for regulars, thanks to its rich, buttery sauce and perfectly cooked chicken pieces.

When it comes to dessert, Tandoori Cottage offers some delicious traditional Indian sweets to end your meal on a sweet note. The gulab jamun is soft, sweet, and syrupy, making it a perfect contrast to the savory dishes. Another favorite is the kulfi, a homemade Indian ice cream with a unique flavor and creamy texture, perfect for cooling down after a spicy meal.

The restaurant is known for its friendly service, with the staff always ready to provide recommendations and ensure you have a great dining experience. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, you’ll feel right at home here. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of food and the portion sizes.

Had a meal here New year's Eve surprisingly quiet ? Don't think they advertise enough ! Food was delicious, competitively priced and great portions ! No drinks menu available but wine, beers and soft drinks offered ! Breads were delicious and food tasty. Atmosphere lovely but quiet, restaurant clean and newly decorated with lots of statues and Paintings . Slight communication issue when ordering but waiter tried his best and sought help as necessary . Would return .

Food was LOVELY, so happy with our meal. Prices are very good and the delivery was easier than I thought as I live in a new development, food came hot and so yummy. Thank you! You’ll be receiving another order from us real soon :-)

This place moved from Northgate End to Southmill Rd. It is now in the Millars site off Southmill Road. The food is good always friendly and good value. Apparently it will be improved soon so can take larger bookings. The owner says that in coming months they will be offering a 3 course meal for around £12.95p per head, which sounds great. This is a good place for a meal for two or a group. Always friendly and accommodating. Worth a visit and a bit of support. I look forward to going back again.
